Quiet Time
One of the most precious things to me at this phase of life is my time. You cannot get it back, and it is so easy to waste it. One of the mistakes that I made for many years was staying busy, and I never set aside time to be quiet. I spent hours engaging in conversations that were not meaningful. Now, the conversations that I engage in are thought provoking and life changing. Setting aside time to communicate with the Lord is critical. I am convinced that the Lord is always standing by to talk to us or to listen to us talk to him. Could you imagine being in a relationship with someone who only wanted you to listen to them talk? That is called a one way conversation. I am embarrassed to admit it, but that is the kind of relationship that I had with the Lord whenI first got saved. I would only communicate with him whenever I needed something. Well, my relationship with him grew stronger when I started setting aside quiet time for him to speak to me. For instance, I drive to work and home some days with the radio off. Also, instead of going to bed with the TV on or scrolling through my social media pages on my phone until I get sleepy, I shut down my electronics and focus my attention on him. Sometimes I start the conversation by asking questions about the best way to complete certain tasks at work or how to achieve a personal goal. Then, I remain quiet. The next thing I know, my mind becomes overwhelmed with great ideas. Have you tried this before? If so, do you find it beneficial?
